Seafood tops the menu in the gulf
It’s simple, fresh and what every visitor to Karumba can’t get enough of – seafood from the Gulf of Carpentaria.
At the Sunset Tavern where many a cold beer is downed as the red sun sinks into the ocean, the prawns and barramundi are the biggest sellers.
Taste prawns as part of a cold seafood platter with oysters, bugs and salmon or savour beer battered barramundi and chips.
Ash’s @ The Point rates high on TripAdvisor and owner Yvonne Tunney says visitors can’t believe the size of the prawn cutlets made with juicy Gulf tiger prawns.
“Visitors always want our wild caught barramundi, but when it comes to prawns they are divided because the Endeavour, tiger and banana prawns are all great in season,” she says.
