The Savannah's Future

Australia’s tropical savannahs are a rich series of ecosystems comprising 19 bioregions and a diverse heritage of human interaction. This has included traditional Aboriginal land management, Macassan sea slug harvesting, pioneer water buffalo hunting, defence operations and today’s mining operations and environmental initiatives.

More than ever we need to take care of northern Australia as it is seen by some as the potential food bowl of Australia or source of water for growing southern populations.

There are many researchers and policy makers examining the region’s future and all stakeholders should maintain their awareness of the issues and potential impacts on the local environment and population.

To learn more about the values of this complex environment download The Nature of Northern Australia (PDF 15Mb) here.

North Australia Economic Development Forum Online

NAEDF Online is a forum for dissemination of information on northern Australia’s development and the challenges of the 21st Century. All those with an interest in northern Australia can post articles, events, news. Visit www.naedf.com.

TRaCK (Tropical Rivers and Coastal Knowledge) draws together more than 70 of Australia's leading social, cultural, environmental and economic researchers to focus on the tropical north of Australia. For more information visit www.track.gov.au.
