Wet Tropics - World Heritage

Wet Tropics (QLD)

This region extends for almost 900,000 hectares from Cooktown to Townsville and includes many national parks including Daintree, Barron Gorge and Wooroonooran. The Wet Tropics of Queensland is one of a handful of sites worldwide which met all four criteria for World Heritage, and the rainforest contains an almost complete evolution of plant life on earth. It also has the highest concentration of primitive flowering families in the world. Many rare and threatened animal species including the southern cassowary, spotted-tailed quoll and the musky-rat kangaroo are also found in the region.
