Victoria River District/Sturt (NT/WA)

The Victoria River District and Sturt Plateau region covers the drier country south of Katherine which crosses the border between the North Territory and West Australia. In the western reaches it features the spectacular rocky bluffs characteristic of the Kimberley - such as the Bungle Bungle area - and in the eastern end it is dominated by the flatter plains of the Barkly. The southern parts grade into the Tanami Desert. The major land use is cattle grazing and there are a number of significant national parks and horticulture in the western parts. Towns include Kununurra, Timber Creek and Aboriginal communities including Kalkarindji.
